Scrubbers, RCM story

LB530: the scrubbers with “wings”

In 1988, RCM also decided to produce its own scrubbers, which until then had been limited to private brands. As in the tradition, RCM technicians did not limit themselves to copying competing machines, but adopted original solutions to make the new scrubbers more manageable and to reduce maintenance.

Based on the long experience gained in servicing machines already on the market since 1980, RCM noted that one of the main problems was the daily maintenance required by acid batteries to ensure their efficiency over time.

To make recharging and maintenance operations as easy as possible, batteries generally “suffocated” in an interior compartment between the clean water tank and the dirty water recovery tank were placed on rotating stands (“wings”) so that they can be easily removed from the machine body and make all maintenance operations (acid filling, cleaning, recharging, tension control) very easy and safe In addition, to increase the manageability of the new scrubbers, it was decided to reduce the size and weight, adopting the tank with a “membrane” that allowed to contain in the volume of a single tank both clean and dirty water recovery, with a drastic reduction of the total dimensions by 40% compared to the competing machines.

The LB530 and LB660 scrubbers were very successful. They consolidated RCM’s reputation as an innovative builder and convinced the Modene Company to commit itself first-hand also in the field of scrubbers, which were beginning to take hold in the market, the strong demand induced by the diffusion of large shopping centers with their spaces to clean daily.

In the following years, the development of gel batteries, which no longer required such expensive maintenance, led RCM to move towards solutions that were more suited to a market that required price containment rather than innovation.

However, RCM was strongly oriented towards the production of scrubbing machines and at the 1999 Interclean in Amsterdam it presented a completely renewed range. Since that historic step, RCM is among the 7 world manufacturers “full range” with their industrial sweepers, urban cleaning (MACRO) and their scrubbers: All of them are designed to last in time and technically updated, including from the point of view of maximum environmental sustainability.

* The “membrane bag” was made up of an antacid plastic bag, which was emptied from the clean water that came out by hand over the brushes and at the same time moved and filled with the dirty water sucked in by the cleaner. Patent of Campedelli Antonio 1987, successively collaborator RCM.
