How would you tell if a surface is really clean?

Cleaning is the combination of all operations that remove dirt, without changing the properties of the treated surface.

What do we mean by the verb “to clean”?

This verb comes from the Latin word polire, that is to smooth, to clean. Therefore, even in ancient times, “to clean” meant “to smooth”, i.e. to remove what was harmful or superfluous in order to make a surface smooth or uniform.

 

When can we consider a surface really clean?

A floor covering or a surface is clean when:

  • it is free from contaminants;
  • it is not greasy at touch;
  • it is odourless;
  • it does not blacken a white paper tissue being rubbed on the surface;
  • the water poured on the surface flows evenly without splitting into drops.

 

The most effective cleaning system depends of various factors: type of dirt and type of flooring.
