In this historic period, people working in schools need more attention to hygiene. Afidamp (Association of Italian Companies of the Professional Cleaning Sector) has published operational guidelines to guide the structures of the services for children aged 0-6 (nurseries and kindergartens).

Reassure and inform families

The first step in ensuring the health safety of children and ensuring proper hygiene is to communicate clearly and openly to parents all the procedures applied. The use of social networks or the presentations of tables summarizing the measures taken are useful for this purpose.

Hydroalcoholic solution at the inlet

In order to avoid contamination inside the premises by accompanying persons or external accompanying persons, it should be possible to disinfect the hands near the entrance by means of hydroalcoholic solution dispensers containing at least 70 % alcohol.

Sanitation once a day

It is recommended to proceed with the following indications of sanitation once a day (after the departure of the children), dedicating special frequency to the cleaning and disinfection of all the areas of risk and/or in contact with the hands of the children and the staff (bathroom area, handles, switches, buttons, tables, chairs, etc.).

Proper ventilation

It is also very important to ensure adequate ventilation and replacement of the air, opening before the start of activities in the morning and then periodically windows for about 15 minutes, according to weather conditions.

Afidamp recalls the importance of using professional products that are specifically designed to deal with more complex types of dirt and pollution than domestic ones. Professional products also have technical sheets and safety sheets, which clearly and unequivocally indicate dilutions, fields and employment patterns.

1. The main areas of cleaning/disinfection

2. Correct sequence of cleaning/disinfection operations

Before each disinfection, it is necessary to proceed to a thorough cleaning of the surfaces, since the active principles of the disinfectant products are neutralized by dirt. Alternatively, disinfectant detergent products can be used that simultaneously perform both functions, allowing to halve the application time In addition, before handling any chemical, it is recommended to carefully read the label and/or the data sheet, respecting the use dilutions and the indicated usage modalities and never mix different chemicals. Cleaning products should be stored in an appropriate place and, if they are transferred, the label should be indicated on the new container. “Type” sequence: remove coarse residues > clean with the corresponding product > rinse (if necessary) > disinfect with the corresponding product > rinse (if necessary)

Using a cleaner-disinfectant you can optimize the time reducing operations as follows: remove coarse residues > clean with detergent-disinfectant > rinse (if necessary)

For places where there is suspicion of contamination by Covid-19, Afidamp suggests proceeding with a thorough cleaning and disinfection.

Due to the potential survival of the virus in the environment for a period of time, sites and areas likely to be contaminated by Covid-19 should be thoroughly cleaned and disinfected with detergents and disinfectants before reuse.

In addition, Afidamp reports periods of removal of the viral load of COVID-19 on some surfaces.
