Panini, from cards to the collection of cars

If you’re passionate about historic cars, you can’t miss the Umberto Panini Collection in Modena. Yes, just Panini, the name known all over the world for the famous stickers.

They will be able to meet Matteo, who has inherited from his father Umberto the passion for the field and the racing cars. Matteo practices the race on foot and by bicycle in great distances and in the deserts, he is a good driver and also the President of the Circle of the Biella, the historical club of fans of historical cars of which was also part Enzo Ferrari.

Matteo says: «My father in 1966 bought from Alejandro De Tomaso (then owner of Maserati) all the collection that was to be sold at auction. The Maserati of the museum “Umberto Panini” are a historical heritage that, only thanks to the passion of family, have remained in the city of the trident.».
They are 19 and among them is the legendary 420/M/58 “Eldorado” that Stirling Moss drove in the Monza 500 Miles in 1958 and the Maserati 250 F Formula 1 to twelve cylinders piloted by Fangio. In the collection is also one of the 4 Maserati 2-seater berlinette coached by Pininfarina, to which Enzo Ferrari gave a high peremptory: «Either produce only for me, or cancel all orders!».
During the management of Ferrari – Maserati with Montezemolo, the Pininfarina resumed the collaboration with Maserati. The collection also includes many other cars, motorcycles, agricultural tractors: all objects of great historical value. «Some models have quintupled their valuation», explains Matteo Panini, «and we are proud of it, but for us it changes little because we want to maintain our philanthropic spirit. I have received several offers from all over the world. All rejected!».

All this is located in one of the buildings that are part of the “Fattoria HOMBRE” (dairy cows for milk that produce an excellent organic Parmigiano Reggiano DOP sold worldwide) created by Umberto Panini in the distant 1974.

In 2020 “HOMBRE” is sold to the Raguzzoni family, (always Modenese) able to guarantee the necessary continuity for the evolution and valorization of a unique and strongly identifier product of the territory. Obviously, the standards of cleanliness and safety are very high and to maintain them requires professionalism, attention, passion and all the necessary equipment.
